Phoenix Public Library Exhibits "Instar" Aug. 13 - Oct. 20

Aug. 11, 2011

Burton Barr Central Library will host an exhibit of photographs by Christopher Colville, titled "Instar," Aug. 13 - Oct. 20 at the library’s @Central Gallery, 1221 N. Central Ave.

The title of the exhibit refers to the periods between successive molts of a caterpillar, which leave behind marks and scars on its body.  In this series of photographs, Colville explores the marks left on the earth by natural events as well as human activity.  The images are a selection from a growing body of work that uses the transformative power of photography to speak to our fears of life, death and regeneration.  (Click here for high resolution images.)

Colville holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts in anthropology and photography and a Master of Fine Arts in photography.  He is a faculty associate at Arizona State University and an adjunct faculty member at Scottsdale Community College.
