Pueblo Grande Museum Seeking Docents, Volunteers

Pueblo Grande Museum Front EntrancePueblo Grande Museum is looking for volunteers and docents to give tours, help with artifacts and archival materials and much more.  The museum is located at 4629 E. Washington St.

Museum staff is holding a free informational breakfast at 9:30 a.m. Oct. 2 for potential volunteers. The only requirements are an interest in Native American history and working in a world-class museum and archaeological site.

Volunteers can contribute through a number of positions: docent (tour guide), gift shop attendant, Collections, Library or Exhibits Aid, and more. Volunteers get to work with the artifacts, rare books, archival materials, children’s tours, special events, or assist with construction of museum exhibits.

Those interested in becoming a volunteer can join a docent training course that begins at 9 a.m. on Oct. 4. This session is the first training course needed before advancing on to specific areas such as tour guide, education, and collections. The session provides an introduction to the Hohokam people, archaeology, and cultural interpretation. Advance registration is required and there is a one-time cost of $25 that includes a Museum membership.
