Sept. 14, 2012
The Parks and Recreation Department already is kicking into high gear planning for one of the Valley’s biggest winter events - the APS Electric Light Parade. The department is now accepting applications for entries for this year’s event, set for Dec. 1.
The theme for the 2012 parade is “Toys, Treasures and Traditions.” Entry options include group and organization motorized floats, custom helium parade balloons, performance groups and marching bands. Entry fees range from no charge up to $400.
The parade gets under way at 7 p.m. on Central Avenue at Montebello Avenue (just south of Bethany Home Road). The parade then heads south on Central Avenue to Camelback Road, where it will turn east to Seventh Street, where it will turn south and end at Indian School Road.
Those interested in participating can find event information on the department website at phoenix.gov/parks or they can call 602-261-8069. Parks staff will accept registration applications until Nov. 2 or until the parade has reached a total of 65 entries.
