Councilman Michael Nowakowski invites residents to the largest Mexican Independence Day Celebration in Maryvale from 2 to 10 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 15, and Sunday, Sept. 16, at Desert Sky Mall, 7611 W. Thomas Road.
“Phoenix is rich in diversity and this is a fun way for the entire family to celebrate the Mexican culture that has helped shape our city,” said Councilman Nowakowski. “It’s also a chance to experience the new Desert Sky Mall – it’s busier, brighter and better than ever!”
The two-day celebration features authentic Mexican food, arts, carnival rides and world-class artists.
On behalf of the Cesar Chavez Foundation, Councilman Nowakowski will present $100,000 in scholarships to students at 8 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 15. At 6 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 16, Councilman Nowakowski and Victor Manuel Trevino Escudero, Gonsulate General of Mexico, will re-enact the “Grito” ceremony by Father Miguel Hidalgo.
