Phoenix City Councilman Tom Simplot was presented with the 2011 Elected Official Award at a luncheon today, held as part of the Eighth Annual Arizona Housing Forum. The annual Housing Hero Awards are hosted by the Arizona Department of Housing and recognize those who demonstrate excellence in developing and creating innovative housing solutions.
As an honoree, Councilman Simplot was recognized for his work with Housing First, a project that promotes permanent supportive housing for the chronically homeless.
“I’m humbled by this recognition,” said Councilman Simplot. “I am honored to be part of the effort to bring the Housing First model to Phoenix.”\
The Housing Hero awards are named in recognition of the outstanding service that the late Brian Mickelsen shared with the Arizona Housing Finance Authority and serves as a lasting tribute to the former Cottonwood city manager’s public service.
In addition to his leadership and work as a councilman, Councilman Simplot also chairs the Phoenix City Council’s Housing and Neighborhoods Subcommittee and is the president and chief executive officer of the Arizona Multihousing Association.
