Phoenix Presents ‘Gateway to Green’ Neighborhood Celebration

Phoenix residents can learn how to make their homes and neighborhoods more sustainable at the city’s “Gateway to Green Community Celebration,” from 4 to 6 p.m. Friday, Nov. 13, at Civic Space Park’s historic A.E. England Building, 424 N. Central Ave.

The free event will include information displays by city departments, appearances by Mayor Phil Gordon and City Council members, refreshments and entertainment.  The event is being held in conjunction with the U.S. Green Building Council International Conference and Expo, Nov. 11 – 13 at the Phoenix Convention Center.

“This event, along with many more planned during the week, is our way of showing off the city's ‘green pride’ as we strive to become America’s most sustainable city,” Mayor Phil Gordon said.

Because parking is limited, participants are encouraged to travel green by taking the light rail, car pooling or bicycling to the park.

After the Gateway to Green celebration, head out to the Green Streets Festival from 6 to 10 p.m. Friday, Nov. 13, at Roosevelt Row (Roosevelt Street between Fourth and Seventh streets). The event is also free and will include vendors and demonstrations showcasing eco-friendly products and services, arts and crafts and locally grown food prepared by local chefs.  For more information, visit rooseveltrow.org.

The festival is presented by Roosevelt Row in partnership with the Arizona Chapter of the U.S. Green Building Council, ASU Downtown, the city of Phoenix, Downtown Phoenix Partnership, HandsOn Greater Phoenix, Local Arizona First, the Phoenix Community Alliance and Valley Forward Association.
