YouthBuild Program Now Accepting Applications

The city of Phoenix YouthBuild program is accepting applications for youth 18-24 years old who are seeking to earn their General Education Development (GED) and explore career opportunities. Information sessions on the program will be held 2 to 4 p.m. Oct. 26, 27, 28 and 29 at the Maricopa Skill Center, 1245 E. Buckeye Road.

The program gives young men and women the opportunity to earn their GED, gain valuable skills in “green” construction and train to become leaders in their community.  Participants set personal, educational and career goals and develop an educational and professional portfolio.

Participants attend tours of local colleges, universities and industries. Community partners work with the youth and discuss topics, such as financial responsibility, healthy living, violence prevention, college life and entrepreneurship opportunities.

YouthBuild is a national program funded by the U. S. Department of Labor. It is a partnership between the city of Phoenix Community and Economic Development Department’s Phoenix Workforce Connection, Arizona Call-A-Teen Youth Resources Inc., Tumbleweed Center for Youth Development, Labor’s Community Service Agency, Maricopa Skill Center and GateWay Community College. YouthBuild Phoenix also partners with Habitat for Humanity and Mayor Phil Gordon’s Green Phoenix Initiative.

If chosen, applicants must be available all day Monday through Friday for six to eight months, reside in the city of Phoenix and not have a high school diploma or GED.

To register for an information session, call 602-252-6721, ext. 201.
