"As a member of the Pension Fairness and Spiking Elimination Ad Hoc Subcommittee, I voted today to end pension inflation in a manner that is morally, ethically and legally right. I believe this reform preserves the public trust because it respects, first and foremost, our taxpayers-at-large – which includes thousands of city employees. It also respects all hardworking city employees who power our city and ensure the best quality service to our residents.
“Earlier this year, I was honored to co-chair the city's efforts to reform our employee pension system by creating sensible, sustainable solutions that, again, respect our taxpayers-at-large and our dedicated city employees. The majority of Phoenix residents voted in support of our plan to create a 50-50 partnership between the employees and the city of Phoenix for pension contributions. Together, we will save nearly $600 million over the next 23 years.
“These two efforts represent comprehensive pension reform while ensuring our city’s position of strength to continue attracting top talent to serve the residents of Phoenix at the highest level."
