Nov. 1, 2010

Councilman Claude Mattox received the Western Maricopa Coalition Chairman’s Award at the 18th Annual WESTMARC Best of the West Awards, presented by Cox Communications. Councilman Mattox, a founding member of WESTMARC, was recognized for his unwavering community service in the west Valley.

Among the other Best of the West 2010 winners was Camelback Ranch - Glendale. Councilman Mattox was recognized by Glendale Mayor Elaine Scruggs for his cooperation and support, facilitating meetings between the cities of Phoenix and Glendale to make the baseball stadium a reality.

The Maryvale Project also was recognized. Councilman Mattox is an ex-officio member of the Maryvale Revitalization Board of Directors and a founding team member of the Maryvale Revitalization Corporation. The goals of the Maryvale Project, a collection of social programs administered by the Maryvale Revitalization Corporation, are the safety and quality of life for the community.

“That’s what regionalism is all about, working together to make good things happen for us all,” said Councilman Mattox.

WESTMARC’s annual Best of the West Awards competition began in 1993 as a way to recognize outstanding contributions to the image, lifestyle and economic development of the west Valley.

Mattox, who represents west Phoenix residents, currently chairs the City Council Public Safety and Veterans Subcommittee and serves on the following City Council subcommittees: Transportation, Infrastructure and Sustainability Subcommittee; and Finance, Efficiency and Innovation Subcommittee.
