Drivers should allow additional time to travel from 5:30 to 7:30 a.m. and 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Nov. 5 through the holiday season in the area bounded by 51st to 47th avenues and Buckeye Road to Mohave Street.
Over the next few weeks, Amazon.com plans to hire 4,400 seasonal employees who will work at the fulfillment center located at 4750 W. Mohave St. The increase in employees and delivery trucks in the area are expected to increase traffic.
Employees at the fulfillment center will enter from 49th Avenue, flow to either a designated onsite drop-off/pick-up area or to a main or auxiliary lot to park. All fulfillment center traffic will exit to 51st Avenue or W. Mohave Street.
To plan for the increased traffic, the city of Phoenix and Amazon will:
- Place electronic signage boards on 51st Avenue and W. Buckeye Road to alert drivers who may want to take an alternate route
- Amazon is working with an event management company on interior traffic control
- Police will be onsite during peak traffic times to provide exterior traffic control
- The Street Transportation Department will monitor traffic flow patterns to adjust traffic signals as needed.
Drivers are encouraged to expect delays and allow for additional travel time in the area through the holiday season.
