Councilman Daniel T. Valenzuela invites residents to join him for a neighborhood meeting at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 19, at the Maryvale Community Center, 4420 N. 51st Ave.
The meeting will focus on the Valley of the Sun United Way Healthy Food Initiative, which focuses on providing all residents with access to healthy, quality foods. The program aims to reduce the number of hungry households from 82,000 to 27,000 by the year 2020.
The City Council Neighborhoods, Housing and Development Subcommittee, chaired by Councilman Valenzuela, voted unanimously in favor of recommending that City Council approve a measure to support this initiative.
“This initiative is part for the city’s FitPHX program, on a mission to make Phoenix one of the healthiest cities in the nation,” said Councilman Valenzuela. “We are what we eat, and healthy residents are the foundation for a healthy community.”
