Phoenix City Councilman Tom Simplot has announced the “We Value Diversity” initiative during a kick-off event at the 1 Voice LGBT Community Center, 4442 N. Seventh Avenue.  The official “We Value Diversity” window decal for local businesses was unveiled during the event.

“It is important to recognize and support diversity in our business community,” said Councilman Simplot.  “I am a longtime champion of local and independent businesses in Phoenix.  The diversity decals allow people to easily identify and support local businesses that welcome the LGBT community.  In addition, this initiative provides local business owners with resources to market to the LGBT community.  When local businesses prosper, Phoenix prospers.”

According to the 2011 LGBT Community Survey by Community Marking Inc., members of the LGBT community own more homes and cars, travel more, spend more on electronics and have the largest amount of disposable income per capita of any niche market in the country.  More details at communitymarketinginc.com.

During the event, Councilman Simplot spoke with business and community leaders about the importance of diversity to grow local businesses in Phoenix.

Phoenix businesses can obtain a free window decal along with more information by contacting Councilman Simplot’s office at 602-262-7447 or council.district.4@phoenix.gov.
