“This evening’s council vote is a strong statement of the city’s commitment to focus attention and resources on the issue of domestic violence.  I would like to thank my colleagues for joining together for the good of the people and families affected by domestic violence.  We will now move forward with a process that is fair and equitable for the many vital organizations that offer support, care and solutions for victims of domestic violence.  We as a council have much work ahead as we create policy changes to address important issues identified by stakeholders in the provider community.   What began as a request for special funding for one organization has grown into a more comprehensive approach to an issue we must address head on.  This is the day when we as a city proclaim loud and clear that we will do whatever we can to help stop the cycle of domestic violence.”
