How Fast Could You Pull A 95,000-Pound Jet?

Teams of city of Phoenix and US Airways employees competed to see who could pull a 95,000-pound Airbus 319 US Airways plane 15 feet the fastest during an event on Oct. 23. The unusual event was not only competitive and fun, it raised some $8,000 for charity as well.

For the past several years, employees have raised money through the Community Service Fund Drive (CSFD) for United Way and its programs with this US Airways/City of Phoenix Jet Pull. Teams of 20 people are assembled and pay an entry fee in order to compete to see which team can pull an aircraft in the shortest amount of time. This year’s winning team pulled the plane 15 feet in less than six seconds.

“We had a record number of teams participating for both city of Phoenix and US Airways,” said CSFD Chair and City of Phoenix Aviation Employee Kate O’Malley. “This is always a fun event, and it is a great feeling to be able to literally PULL for our local community!” Get full story.
