Councilwoman Neely Attends Palomino Community Builders’ Groundbreaking Ceremony
Councilwoman Peggy Neely will attend the Palomino Community Builders Inc. groundbreaking ceremony for the builder’s inaugural housing development at 8:30 a.m. Thursday March 12, at 2615 E. Paradise Lane.
Six single-family homes, which will range from about 1,300 to 1,600 square feet, will be built on the nearly 1.5-acre property. Funding for the project is being provided by city of Phoenix Housing Department, which also is providing down payment assistance.
“This groundbreaking is the beginning of a great partnership between the city of Phoenix and Palomino Community Builders that will put affordable housing within reach for more prospective homebuyers in Phoenix,” said Neely, whose northeast district includes the Palomino neighborhood. “The end product of this collaboration will be six new houses that will give residents more options and move the mix of housing in the Palomino neighborhood further toward home ownership. The pride and vested interest in the community that come with home ownership will further strengthen the neighborhood.”
Palomino Community Builders, a nonprofit community development corporation, seeks to elevate the housing opportunities for members of the communities it serves by building single family homes that are more ecologically and fiscally sustainable than traditional low-income housing.
The houses are intended for first-time homebuyers. Palomino will identify prospective homebuyers through Community Housing Resources of Arizona and will then qualify and assist them in every step of the process.
MWC Construction, LLC will be the general contractor on the project, and the homes are slated for completion by December 2009. For more information visit palominocommunitybuilders.com or call Palomino Community Builders at 480-682-4480.
