New Intern Joins District 4 Staff

Aug. 5, 2005

Phoenix Councilman Tom Simplot announced that Christopher Vasquez has joined his District 4 staff as an intern.

Vasquez has a strong public service background, serving as an intern for the Orange County Democratic Executive Committee in Orlando, Fla., where he created bi-partisan voter outreach groups in area schools. As a student at the University of Miami, he served two years as president of the school’s gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender student organization. Vasquez was recognized in 2002 as one of Teen People magazine’s “20 Teens Who Will Change the World” for his work at the Florida state legislature supporting a bill that would protect students from harassment.

Vasquez graduated from the University of Miami in May 2005, majoring in Public Relations and Political Science. He worked with the school newspaper and student government.

“Christopher brings a passion for youth issues, especially the needs of gay and lesbian youth,” said Simplot. “His nationally-recognized advocacy skills will be an asset for all of our residents.”

Vasquez will handle resident requests and writing projects, as well as working with the Crystal Meth Task Force co-chaired by Councilmen Simplot and Dave Siebert, District 1.
