Recruiting Volunteers for Major League Fun and a Chance to Help Revitalize Phoenix

The Arizona Diamondbacks, Valley of the Sun United Way and the city of Phoenix Neighborhood Services and Public Works Departments are recruiting volunteers for a community clean-up event 6:30 to 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 29, in Maryvale.

Phoenix Mayor Phil Gordon, Vice Mayor Tom Simplot, Derrick Hall, president and CEO of the Arizona Diamondbacks, and Merl Waschler, president and CEO of Valley of the Sun United Way, will be on hand to kick off the event taking place between McDowell and Thomas Roads, 39th to 43rd Avenues, in Maryvale.

Volunteers will help residents remove graffiti, trim overgrown weeds and remove trash to help combat the effects of crime and blight in the neighborhood. Volunteer check-in is 6:30 a.m. at the Human Services Department’s Adam Diaz Senior Center, 4115 W. Thomas Road.

This event is part of the city’s commitment to improve the quality of life in Phoenix neighborhoods through preservation and revitalization, in collaboration with partners including The Valley of the Sun United Way and The Arizona Diamondbacks.
