Councilman Tom Simplot Announces Council Assistant

District 4 Councilman Tom Simplot, who took office today, announced that Alma Hernandez will be joining his team as council assistant.

Hernandez, a fourth generation Arizonan, brings to District 4 an extensive background in the community and government. From 1991-1999, she worked as the Phoenix office manager for Congressman Ed Pastor, and previously worked for Maricopa County Supervisor Andy Kunasek. She currently is serving as assistant to Secretary of State Jan Brewer.

"Alma will be an asset to the District 4 Office," said Simplot. "Not only is she passionate about our community, her experience with city and county issues will ensure that our office's transition is smooth and successful."

"She is bilingual and will be able to help me reach out to the whole community. I am very excited that Alma has agreed to join my team," he added.

Hernandez is married to Bill Hernandez and they have three children. She will begin work Sept. 25.

Simplot will be formally sworn in by Mayor Skip Rimsza at 3 p.m. on Oct. 1 in the City Council Chambers.
