Homicide at Mission Market Store
A store owner trying to stop a beer run was killed after he confronted the two suspects stealing from him. On September 12, just before 8:00 p.m. two unidentified males went to the Mission Market at 1046 N. 26th Street and began walking toward the exit with a number of beer bottles in their arms. The suspects then fled out of the store without paying for the beer. Mission Market owner Francisco Enriquez-Quintero, 59, chased after them.
The scene evidence shows the victim may have confronted the suspects just outside the door to the store; at which point one of the suspects shot Enriquez-Quintero and fled on foot northbound on 26th street from Portland Street. The victim walked back into his store and collapsed. A witness called 911 and Phoenix Police officers arrived within 2 minutes. They entered the market and found Enriquez-Quintero shot in the upper torso. Phoenix Fire Department paramedics also responded but he was pronounced dead at the scene. Patrol searched the area without finding either of the suspects.
Investigators are continuing to work with forensic imaging specialists to provide additional visual aides. Due to technical problems with the store cameras this is the best possible image available at this time. The top right hand corner shows suspect 1.
