Cutting, officer involved shooting

Phoenix Police were called to a residence in the area of 1700 West Cochise Drive on August 2 around 2:00 p.m. in response to a cutting. When officers arrived, they were met inside the home by three witnesses who reported seeing suspect Ascencion Villasenor-Lopez, 53, stabbing the victim, Carmen Villasenor, 48, in a bedroom of the home. The witnesses, one of whom is the 14 year-old son of the victim and suspect, were asked to wait outside the home while four officers conducted a tactical search of the residence.

The officers arrived at one bedroom of the house and saw the victim lying on the bed, face down, and bleeding. The suspect was standing over the victim and holding a knife. Officers gave verbal command for Villasenor-Lopez to put down the knife and when he failed to comply, one officer fired his Taser. The suspect attempted to use the knife he was holding to cut the Taser probe line and raised the knife toward the officer who fired the Taser. At that time two other officers, one with his duty handgun and the other with a shotgun, fired upon the suspect.

Phoenix Fire personnel entered the home and pronounced the suspect dead, then transported the victim to a local hospital where she is listed in critical condition. The cause of this ordeal is unknown at this time.
