UPDATE: Fire victim identified

According to investigators Mr. Neely was living at an assisting living facility where he was last seen leaving in his morotrorized wheelchair. Based on video surveillance, investigators were able to determine the last time Mr. Neely was last seen. Mr. Neely was seen leaving the facilities on August 2nd at approximately 8:00 pm.
Mr. Neely’s body was partially dismembered when he was found in the burning garbage container. He was later identified through his fingerprints.
Mr. Neely’s motorized wheel chair remains out standing.
Phoenix Police investigators are asking for assistance in finding the motorized wheelchair and any information regarding his death. August 5, 2009 - Homicide victim discovered in early morning trash fire
Wednesday, August 5, 2009, at approximately 5 a.m., Phoenix Fire responded to a blaze in a residential garbage container located near 9th Avenue and Peoria. As the fire was being extinguished, firefighters noticed there was a badly charred body in the container. The condition of the body prevented investigators from identifying the victim or even determining a gender; it was also unclear as to how long the body may have been in the container.
The investigation is on-going and investigators are asking for the community’s help.
