Just after midnight on October 19, 2009, Phoenix Police responded to a shots fired call at an apartment complex located off the Black Canyon Freeway and Orangewood. When officers arrived they found a 31 year-old man dead and his mother suffering from multiple gun shot wounds. She was transported to a local hospital with serious but not life threatening injuries.

According to investigators, the suspect, 36 year-old Joseph Ochoa was the ex-boyfriend of the victim’s sister. The two men had a verbal altercation at the front door of the apartment, during which the suspect shot and killed the victim. His mother approached the front door during the altercation and was also shot by the suspect. The victim’s sister was not home at the time of this incident.

Ochoa was later arrested on murder and aggravated assault charges. Police are looking for two additional suspects in this case: A heavy-set woman with dark hair pulled back in a ponytail, last seen wearing a horizontal striped shirt, and a 5’8” man with a thin build, dark hair, small goatee, with tattoos on his left arm and shoulder. He was last seen wearing jeans and a white tank-top. These suspects may have been driving a red or maroon SUV. Anyone with information on this case is asked to call Phoenix police.
