"Go Purple" supports domestic violence awareness in October

Tuesday, October 13, 2009 Phoenix may be blanketed in the color purple! The community is being encouraged to GO PURPLE by wearing something purple in support of Domestic Violence awareness. The campaign is an effort to bring awareness to the issue as October is National Domestic Violence Awareness Month.

One in three women in the U.S. will experience domestic violence in their lifetime and nearly half of the female victims live in a home with children under 12. Approximately 20% of high school girls have reported being physically and/or sexually abused by a dating partner.

The City’s Family Advocacy Center will host information tables in the City Hall Atrium during Tuesday’s lunch hour. For more information, please contact Libby Bissa at the Family Advocacy Center, (602) 534-3071.
