Though we’ve committed to enhancing our customer service, some survey numbers from 2012 show that staff already has set a high standard. More than 650 people took program or class surveys in 2012 to tell us how we’re doing. Almost 90 percent of respondents agreed that staff facility and park staff was welcoming, and 85 percent agreed that staff was committed to quality service. More than 93 percent of customers surveyed agreed that staff was keeping our parks and facilities in good condition.

In 2013, staff is moving forward with with a new round of customer service training for supervisors.

In our Strategic Plan, we pledged to enhance park landscapes through signage and plantings at more than 30 parks in 2012. Park information is separated so that park rules can be updated by replacing only section of the sign. We added perennials around the base of the new signs to further improve curb appeal. We have aggressive plans to bring the new signs to all Phoenix parks in the next 12-18 months.

How important is our full-day supervised summer recreation programs to parents? Here's what one parent wrote to us this fall after her child's successful summer at the Washington Activity Center's program:
“My child was thoroughly excited everyday before I would drop her off and almost sad that the evening was coming to an end as I picked her up. The staff and volunteers at this location are like no other recreational experience I have had in the valley…”

Caption lakeblue: We began adding these QR code stickers to trail posts in the Phoenix preserves in 2012. This one is on the Cactus Wren trail in the Sonoran Preserve.
When hikers scan the QR code into a smartphone, they get detailed information on their current location and are one click away from a detailed trail map. This moved us toward out Strategic Plan goal of enhancing safety for staff and visitors. These stickers are on dozens of trail posts, and we'll be adding dozens more to trails throughout the city in 2013.
