Thanks to a partnership between the City of Phoenix and the non-profit South Mountain Sonoran Desert Coalition, the center is now open four days a week.
Visitors can pick up trail maps, and ask on-site volunteers for hike suggestions or just general information.
The museum's interpretive displays provide visitors insight into the Sonoran Desert ecosystem found right outside the center's doors. A series of trails, including the wheelchair-accessible Judith Tunell trail, adjacent to the center mean desert exploration is just a step away.
