An array of services and programs are available to help get your project from design to completion as quickly and cost effectively as possible. A brief introduction of each is listed below. Note that many of these programs are premium services and additional fees and steps may apply.
- Adaptive Reuse Program
The adaptive reuse of existing buildings for new purposes is a priority of the city of Phoenix. Redevelopment of older buildings, whether they are historical, dated, or in established areas of the city, promotes a more vibrant community. Because strict adherence to current building codes and standards may cause challenges to prospective building owners, the city has adopted the International Existing Building Code (IEBC) to provide a method of relief from modern building code requirements while simultaneously assuring safety.

Simplifies permitting and inspection process for facilities by allowing inspector review of plans.
- Building Maintenance Registration Program
A cost-effective way to deal with electrical, plumbing and mechanical maintenance projects.

- Green Building Program

- Historic Preservation Design Review

- Office of Customer Advocacy
Development assistance to small business customers new to the land development and building permit process, especially those considering the adaptive reuse of an existing building.
- Online Permitting
Limited types of one- and two-family unit residential permits are available online. Commercial permits must be obtained in person at the Development Center or via an appointment.
- Self Certification Program
Allows professionals who have attended the department's training to take responsibility for code compliance and certify the project complies with applicable code. When submitted, plans go directly to the field for inspection.
