At this time, detectives are still trying to locate the mother. They have received information from several witnesses in the area who saw a young woman walking around the area where the baby was found, as well as near a local elementary school in the area who was described as being "very pregnant" and appeared to be in "distress."
The following is her description
- Hispanic Female, 17-24-years-old
- 5"3"
- Slender
- Dark hair in a ponytail
- white spaghetti strap shirt, blue or gray pants
- Noticeable tattoo on her right bicep area that could possibly be a red floral design.
Again, this woman appeared pregnant and in distress. If anyone knows who this woman is or who Baby Kathleen's mother may be, they are encouraged to call the Phoenix Police Department or Silent Witness. Detectives are concerned for the health of the mother as well.
Original Information
On February 7th, 2012, at about 3:38 p.m., Phoenix Police Officers responded to a call of an abandoned newborn baby girl, left in the front yard of a home at 900 W. Kathleen. The resident said she had returned to her home from an errand and found the baby girl wrapped in a blanket about 25 feet from the front door. The baby appeared to have been born within the last several hours, due to the condition of the attached umbilical cord and afterbirth still on the baby.
The baby was transported to a local hospital by members of the Phoenix Fire Department. She was awake and conscious at the time she was transported and is believed to be doing well. It is unknown who the mother is or where she may be.
Anyone who may have information concerning this incident or knows who the mother might be, is encouraged to call the Phoenix Police Department Violent Crimes Bureau at (602) 262-6141 or Silent Witness at (480) WITNESS, (480) TESTIGO for Spanish.
