Chief of Police Daniel V. Garcia (Official Photo)Daniel V. Garcia spent 34-years with the Dallas Police Department before being hired as the City of Phoenix Chief of Police on May 14, 2012.  He was a Chief level officer for 18 years with Dallas and served in almost every area of that police department.

Chief Garcia was born and raised in Corpus Christi, Texas.  Chief Garcia comes from a family of law enforcement officers and community servants. He currently has three brothers in law enforcement.  Chief Garcia and his wife Irma have two children, Danny Jr. and Rachel.  Chief Garcia earned his degree in Criminal Justice from Sam Houston State University, is a graduate of the FBI National Academy and the Police Executive Research Forum.

Chief Garcia has brought “policing with a purpose” to the City of Phoenix.  This concept is important to Chief Garcia as it stands nurturing and protecting democracy, ensuring justice, a spirit of service, fundamental fairness, and protecting our community from harm.  He believes these are the ethical foundations for law enforcement.

Chief Garcia is also committed to the Nobility of Policing.  He knows that the community holds law enforcement in high regard and with that comes the responsibility for all law enforcement officers to maintain a high ethical standard.
