Information Provided by the Police Department

Public/Traffic Detail

The Public/Traffic Detail is located on the first floor of the Phoenix Police Headquarters at 620 West Washington Street, just off the main lobby. Hours of operation are 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, Monday through Friday, except city holidays. Metered parking is available. The public entrance is on the south side of the building facing Washington Street.

Currently an oversize/overweight load permit can be obtained by coming into our office. However, to streamline this service for you, a permit application will be available online. Once the application is completed, you can submit it to us ahead of time and we will notify you when the permit is ready for pick-up.

What are the office hours to obtain a permit from the City of Phoenix?

City of Phoenix permit office hours are Monday - Friday 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. Permits received after 5:00 pm, by email or fax, will be available the next business day.

May oversized loads be moved on City of Phoenix streets during the weekends and on holidays, and would curfew hours apply?

With a valid City of Phoenix permit, moves may be made on weekends and holidays. The curfew hours would not apply.

Does the City of Phoenix issue 'blanket' permits?

No, each specific load requires a permit.

When are escort vehicles required?

Escort vehicles are required when overall dimensions exceed either:

  • 90' length
  • 14' width
  • 15' height
  • 20' front or rear overhang

When is a permit required for overhangs?

A permit is required for overhangs exceeding:

  • 3' front overhang
  • 6' rear overhang
