The South Property Investigations Unit (PIU) investigate property crimes such as Burglary, Theft, Criminal Damage, and Trespass. Specialty Investigative Units include Metal Theft. They also operate the Burglary Reduction Program (BRP) which directs the combined efforts of statistical crime analysis, education, communication, and wanted flyers to reduce Burglaries and increase penalties for those that commit them.

The Property Crime Bureau, South Property Investigations Unit (SPIU) is comprised of three distinct areas, including: 1) The Investigative Support Detail (ISD); 2) Property Investigations Detectives; 3) The Metal TheftDetail.

Detectives assigned to the investigative squads covering the precincts are responsible for investigating a variety of property crimes that occur in the south three precincts of the city, or the non-grey areas of the above map. The Metal Theft Squad is tasked with metal theft investigations, inspections of scrap dealers' yards and maintaining transaction logs.
