Application

Exam Dates for Police Recruit positions

The Phoenix Police Department will have a police recruit test on the following dates.

  • No registration or notification is required.

  • Out of state applicants who pass the written test will be offered the agility test the following morning after both the Wednesday and Friday written tests.

PHYSICAL AGILITY TEST INFORMATION (Candidates are eligible to take the physical agility test only after passing the written exam)

All physical agility tests will be held at the Arizona Law Enforcement Academy , 10001 South 15th Avenue , Phoenix , Arizona 85041 ( 15th Ave south of Dobbins Road )

Late arrivals will not be admitted to the exam.

  • Ft. Carson Army Base Bldg. 1117, Room 203B - Education Center, Colorado written test on March 26th and 27th @9:00AM. Physical Fitness will follow immediately.

All Applicants who pass the written exam will be invited to the Arizona Law Enforcement Academy, to take the physical agility test.

No Physical Agility Test Will Follow the Evening Tests! Applicants who successfully pass the written test on one of these dates will be required to take the physical agility test on one of the following Saturday test dates, instructions and agility testing dates will be provided at the test site.

There is no study guide for the City of Phoenix Police Recruit Test. The written test consists of four parts: memory retention, sentence structure, reading comprehension, and a general survey. We do NOT endorse the use of any study guide and this information is given out only as an aide to those who solicit information regarding available resources.

Physical Agility Test

The Physical Agility Test is the 2nd step of the hiring process, THIS IS NOT THE WRITTEN TEST!

The agility test will follow the written test on the posted test dates only or when posted separately.
Applicants who have not yet taken and passed the written test are NOT eligible to take the agility test. Please refer to the Website in the future for written exam dates.

THE PHYSICAL AGILITY TEST IS ONLY FOR APPLICANTS WHO HAVE TAKEN AND PASSED THE WRITTEN TEST WITHIN THE PAST 9 MONTHS AND FOR APPLICANTS WHO ARE RETAKING THE PHYSICAL AGILITY TEST THAT PREVIOUSLY DID NOT PASS.

Out of State applicants will be offered the physical agility test the following morning.

Arizona Law Enforcement Academy, 10001 S. 15th Avenue then south on 15th Avenue from Dobbins).
Please bring a Photo ID and your test result form and/or letter with you. (You are provided with a test result form immediately following the written test while you wait.)

NOTES:

When posted exam dates are TENTATIVE and may change due to facility arrangements.

To verify test dates call the City of Phoenix Police and Fire job line number at (602) 534-5627.

Come dressed appropriately (running shoes, T -shirts, shorts, sweatshirts or sweats). No bare midriffs, see-through clothing, cut-offs, etc.

Applications

The application may be picked up at the city's Personnel Department Application Office, 135 N. Second Ave. from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday and from 8 am to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Friday.

E-mail requests for applications must include the title of recruitment, your name, address, city, state, zip code and phone number. The application will be mailed to you.

Bring your completed application to the test.
The date, time and location are provided on the application. We will also provide applications at the test site.


Police Recruit Ride Along Application

Persons currently involved in the Police Recruit hiring process are eligible to participate in a Ride Along program where the applicant can ride along with an officer during their work shift. Once in the hiring process the applicant's background investigator will make the appropriate arrangements for the ride along.
