On May 1st, 2013, the winners for the 2013 Phoenix Police Department “Too Young to Drink” PSA Contest were announced at the awards ceremony held at North Canyon High School. Phoenix Police Chief Daniel V. Garcia and Mr. Alberto Gutier of the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety were on hand to present the awards to the finalists. The following are the top three finishers and the money they received.
1st Place South Mountain High School $5,000
2nd Place Camelback High School $3,000
3rd Place Shadow Mountain High School $2,000
In addition, each of the other finalists listed below received $600, as well.
Mountain Pointe High School
Metropolitan School of the Arts
Desert Vista High School
Pinnacle High School
Barry Goldwater High School
Funding for this contest was obtained through a grant from the Oversight Council on Driving or Operating Under the Influence Abatement, which is staffed by the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety. The prize money will go directly to the individual school’s video, media, communications, film production or similar type program. In addition, each school also received a trophy signifying how they placed in the contest.
The PSA’s created by this year’s winners and finalists will be featured on the City of Phoenix cable channel Phoenix 11 and Know 99, which is the youth and education channel. In addition, they can be viewed on YouTube going to the link below.
It is anticipated that this will be an annual event.
