Archaeology Awareness Month
Archaeology Awareness Month is every year during the month of March and is organized by the State Historic Preservation Office (SHPO). Institutions throughout the state, including Pueblo Grande Museum, participate in this celebration of archaeology by offering a wide variety of programs as well as participate in the annual Archaeology Expo.
Ancient Technology Day
Learn how people made jewelry, tools and obtained food before hardware and grocery stores! Demonstrations and activities will include an agave roast, rock art, cordage making, flintknapping, calendar sticks, boomerang throw, and atlatl contest, Southwest Indian games and much more! Activities are for all ages! Lots of activities, tours, and demonstrations for everyone to enjoy. Held every year in March, museum admission and activities are free!
Hohokam Experience Summer Programs
We have children's programs on various topics such as the Hohokam people, American Indian people, the Southwest, plants and animals of the desert and much more. These programs are offered each summer. Pre-registration is required.
International Archaeology Day
Pueblo Grande Museum celebrates National Archaeology Day, every October by offering free museum admission, tours of the site, hands-on archaeology activities, and demonstrations.
Navajo Rug Auction and Lecture
Pueblo Grande Museum hosts a lecture and rug preview as well as a rug auction over a two day event in November. The rug auction features Auctioneers Bruce Burnham, owner of the Burnham Trading Post in Sanders, Arizona and trader Hank Blair. A portion of the proceeds from the auction will go to benefit the Pueblo Grande Museum and Archaeological Park Auxiliary. This event is free and open to the public.
Veterans Day Gourd Dance
Pueblo Grande Museum and the Arizona Territorial Gourd Society invite the public to attend the annual Veterans Day Gourd Dance and Community Potluck at Pueblo Grande Museum. The event is always held on November 11th from 11am to 4pm. Join us to honor the memory of all Veterans who served our nation. Gourd Dancing starts at 11:30 am. Event is free and open to everyone. Bring your favorite potluck dish to share.
Pueblo Grande Museum Auxiliary Indian Market
The Pueblo Grande Museum Auxiliary Indian Market is held at Pueblo Grande Museum the second weekend in December and is a two day event. The Indian Market features over 200 top Native American artists with items such as paintings, sculptures, jewelry, baskets and much more. There will be music and dance performances scheduled throughout the event, artist demonstrations, and a children’s craft area. Also, enjoy traditional Native American Foods. Admission is $5 for adults, children 12 and under is free.
