Aguila 18
Set beneath the dramatic backdrop of South Mountain, the largest municipal mountain park in the world, this Gary Panks designed course recently underwent a bunker renovation and is the new crowned jewel of Phoenix's municipal golf courses. This $6.5 million, 210-acre facility features an 18-Hole Championship Course and a 9-hole course. This links designed course offers a challenging layout and design and fairways and greens flanked by numerous bunkers. Transition areas feature native grasses and wildflowers of the Sonoran Desert. Aguila, surrounded by scenic mountain views and Phoenix's downtown skyline, welcomes all levels of golfers from beginners to expert (scratch) golfers. The 18-Hole Championship Course features three lakes coming into play on five holes, with continuous cart paths and four sets of tees. Aguila Golf Course is the former site of a family farm. Its name is Spanish for "Eagle." The Aguila logo adopts an ancient Aztec design of an eagle and is available for purchase on golf hats and apparel in the pro shop.
