Residential construction permits are needed when existing homes are remodeled or additions are made. A few examples are; garage/carport construction or conversion, porch enclosure, demolition, patio cover and a fence wall. Permits are also required for custom homes built for a specific site and not intended to be used at multiple locations.
Standard plan reviews are completed when a developer or builder wants to use the same basic design at many locations, usually in a specified subdivision. One comprehensive review of the construction elements of the plans is needed. The plan then becomes a "standard" and can be used to obtain permits for numerous sites.
