America's Friendliest Airport

MILITARY HOSPITALITY ROOM

Special Place Just for Military, Veterans

At Sky Harbor, military members and veterans have a VIP area of their own on the mezzanine level of Terminal 2. The Military & Veterans Hospitality Room provides a quiet, special space for present and ex service members to get away from the hustle and bustle of the airport.

The area is equipped with comfortable sofas and chairs, computers, large-screen televisions, games, appliances and even a children’s play area for families. Books, snacks, soft drinks and water also are provided free of charge.

The available amenities were either donated or purchased through the fundraising efforts of the Phoenix Military Veterans Affairs Commission. TriWest Healthcare Alliance recently made a generous donation to help provide ongoing funding and is encouraging other corporations to participate in a matching campaign.

Additionally, the Phoenix Police Airport Bureau collected donations among officers and furnished a game room for the hospitality area in honor of Marine Corporal Christopher Lapka. Corporal Lapka, son of Phoenix Police Officer, Kenneth Lapka, was killed in action in Iraq in October 2004.

Military members and veterans pass the time during layovers in the hospitality room watching television, making telephone calls, checking
e-mail or surfing the Web. Some military families also use it as a private area to spend quiet time before a loved one departs.

“We will never forget the sacrifices that members of the military continue to make for us,” said Phoenix Mayor Phil Gordon. “This is just one small way that we can show our appreciation.”
