PHX Perspective
A Layover in Phoenix Offers Many Opportunities at Sky Harbor
Connecting through PHX and have a layover of a few hours? Wondering what you might be able to do to occupy your time? Don’t worry, PHX Sky Harbor has a variety of activities to keep you entertained.
Need to do work or catch up on some e-mails? Sky Harbor has FREE WiFi. It is available in all terminals both before and after security in the restaurant and retail areas and near the gates.
Enjoy art? Did you know that Sky Harbor has one of the largest airport art collections in the United States? Free exhibitions are located throughout all terminals and are viewable 24 hours a day. In Terminal 4, near Cold Stone Creamery, there is an art gallery where you can see paintings, sculptures, and other exhibits that are on display. Pick up a brochure or postcard near the exhibits to find out more.
Need to get a gift for someone or want something for yourself? Sky Harbor has a wide-variety of shops offering Arizona souvenirs, jewelry, sports attire and even a Border’s Book Store. Pick up an Airport Guide to see what is available in each terminal.
If you’re hungry, try many of the food options available. From Southwestern to Asian to American cuisines, Sky Harbor offers a multitude of dining experiences on both sides of security. Healthy food options are also offered at Paradise Bakery, Chili’s and more.
For those individuals that have a layover longer than a few hours, take the PHX Airport Shuttle to the Light Rail stop at 44th Street and Washington and head to downtown Phoenix or to Tempe. The Pueblo Grande Museum, an archeological site that is dedicated to preserving the history of Arizona’s first peoples, is also just right across the street from the 44th Street and Washington stop.
And, if you’ve shopped, eaten, taken in the art exhibitions, and just want to relax before your flight, you can always people watch. After all, Sky Harbor was voted “Best Place for People Watching” in 2008 in the Annual Reader’s Choice Awards by AZCentral.com.
