Home Delivered Meals Qualifications

The city of Phoenix Human Services Department, Senior Services Division, delivers home-delivered meals Monday - Friday (except holidays) to the homebound elderly and disabled. Clients are referred to five home-delivered sites by three case management firms. If you have questions regarding beginning a home delivered meal, the Senior HELP LINE's telephone number is (602) 264-4357.

The home delivered sites are:

Deer Valley Kitchen, 2001 W. Wahalla St.(602) 534-2739

Desert West Kitchen, 6501 W. Virginia Ave. (602) 495-3708

McDowell Place Kitchen, 1845 E. McDowell Road (602) 262-6420

Paradise Valley Kitchen, 17402 N. 40th St. (602) 495-3788

Pecos Kitchen, 17010 S. 48th St. (602) 534-5390

South Mountain Kitchen, 212 E. Alta Vista Road (602) 262-7260 or (602) 262-4093

Meal Delivery Procedure:
A meal delivery aide will deliver the meals between 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. The client must be home to receive the meal and sign for its receipt. If the person will not be home, we ask for cancellation 24 hours prior to delivery. A signature is needed daily.

Meal Contributions:
There is no charge for the meal but we do ask for contributions. The suggested contribution is $2/meal. Contributions are used to fund and maintain the home-delivered meal program. All contributions are confidential. You may write a check to the center, give cash/food stamps in an envelope provided by the delivery person or mail the contribution to the senior center. We accept contributions on a daily, weekly or monthly basis. The city of Phoenix hopes that if you can contribute, you will. However, an inability to contribute will not prevent you from receiving a meal.

Cancelling a Meal:
If for some reason you will not be home to receive your meal, please telephone the senior center as soon as possible. We need at least 24-hours notice so we can reduce the meals prepared. If you cannot give us advance notice due to an emergency, please call us as soon as possible so the delivery person does not attempt to make a delivery to the residence. When you do not notify us, the meals are thrown out. The meal cannot be served to another person.

Food Comments:
Your comments are welcome. You may tell the delivery person, write the center a note or telephone the manager at the senior center. Comments will be given to the menu review committee and center cook for review and implementation of changes, where feasible. Compliments as well as complaints are appreciated.

The Senior Center hours vary by site. Please feel free to contact the site for program and center hours. This home delivered meal program is funded in part by the Area Agency on Aging.
