
The City of Phoenix participates in the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) through the Department of Homeland Security's Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). As a participant of the NFIP, the City has adopted a Floodplain Management Ordinance, which includes mapping and rating of the Special Flood Hazard Areas within the City. The City of Phoenix Floodplain Management provides updated floodplain information and establishes development requirements for projects within the Special Flood Hazard Areas (SFHA). These requirements keep properties from flooding and erosion hazards to a minimum as well as protecting the natural resources within flood prone areas.
