City Plans Special Neighborhood Bulk Trash Collection for Hardest Hit Storm Damaged Areas

The city of Phoenix Public Works Department has announced a special neighborhood bulk trash collection for the hardest hit storm-damaged neighborhoods.

The boundaries for the special bulk trash collection are:

• I-17 to the SR51, from Van Buren Street north to Maryland Avenue



• Shea Boulevard north to Thunderbird Road (also including the area south of Shea to the Mountain Preserve), from 36th Street east to Tatum Boulevard



• Central Avenue to 12th Street, from Dunlap Avenue north to Cactus Road

The city will begin bulk trash pick ups in these areas on Saturday, Sept. 6, but residents can place materials in their normal collection area beginning today.

Another area hit hard by the storm near and around Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport already is scheduled for uncontained trash placement beginning Sept. 13.

As part of the city’s sustainability program, residents are being asked to separate their “green” waste, such as tree limbs, branches and leaves, from other storm debris. The green waste will be chipped and reused as mulch.

Residents also can bring their trash and debris for free to the city’s transfer stations at 27th Avenue and Lower Buckeye Road or I-17 and Dixileta Drive. Both transfer stations are open Monday through Friday from 5:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. The 27th Avenue transfer station is open on Saturdays from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. and the I-17 and Dixileta Drive transfer station is open Saturdays and Sundays from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. Residents should cover their loads and bring a city water bill or driver’s license for proof of residency.
