Project Schedule
The project is a multi-phase process designed to engage downtown Phoenix stakeholders at every phase: city officials and staff, property owners, business owners, homeowners, developers, nonprofit organizations, local artists and all interested community members. The project started off by interviewing over a hundred stakeholders. A Stakeholder Interviews Report was prepared, summarizing what people want most to change in downtown and specific issues that need to be addressed by the project.
As part of the process, major community and stakeholder meetings have been held. This process resulted in the adopted Downtown Phoenix Plan on July 2nd, 2008. Follow-up community and stakeholder meetings will be held to discuss specific proposals as part of the Form-Based Code.
The Urban Form Project is divided into the following phases:
- Working Framework Plans: Downtown Districts and Centers, Circulation and Public Space and Building Form (Completed)
- Studies: Sustainability, Circulation, and Parks and Public Spaces (Completed)
- Downtown Phoenix Plan: Character Areas, Land Use, Development Standards, Circulation, Parking Strategies, Streetscape Sections, Public Spaces, Public Art, Connected Oasis, and Sustainability. (Adopted on July 2nd, 2008)
- Draft Downtown Form-Based Code (Submitted to Planning Commission January 2008)
- Final Downtown Form-Based Code (Planning Commission on October 22, 2008)
