work in countering violence in our communities through art. He discusses
the renovations and grand opening of the George Washington Carver
Museum and Cultural Center and his talks about an upcoming job fair
targeted to veterans.
April 2009
- Councilman Michael Johnson highlights good ways to keep kids busy
this summer, including visits to public pools, the Children's Museum
of Phoenix and enrollment in the Phoenix Afterschool Center (PAC)
Summer Program. The councilman also discusses recent changes in the
PAC Program and how residents will be affected.
March 2009
- Councilman Michael Johnson highlights the upcoming Peace Fest at
the South Mountain Activity Complex. He learns about the Harmon Library
renovation project from the construction project manager and the library
branch manger. To close, Councilman Johnson discusses proposed changes
to the voting process with City Clerk Mario Paniagua.
February 2009
- Councilman Michael Johnson highlights the upcoming professional
development seminar hosted by the Central Arizona Chapter of the National
Forum for Black Public Administrators. He discusses the new Executive
Conference Center and Food Court featured at the Phoenix Convention
Center and learns about Collins College, an educational institution
that recently relocated to District 8.
January 2009
- Councilman Michael Johnson honors city employees who help make District
8 shine, with his annual "I Luv District 8" award show. Even in the
face of challenging economic times, city employees are working as
a team to make it through.
December
2008 - Councilman Michael Johnson discusses the need for
residents to become foster families and adopt children, especially
within District 8. He highlights the various programs and services
offered by Society of St. Vincent de Paul – Phoenix and the
upcoming Martin Luther King Awards Breakfast and other community events
that celebrate the MLK holiday.
November 2008
- Councilman Michael Johnson discusses World AIDS Day with members
of various community organizations. He also highlights a new Kroc
center coming to south Phoenix and the dynamic Roosevelt Row.
October 2008
- Councilman Michael Johnson discusses the city's senior services
program and features an assisted-living residential complex. He highlights
various activities at Pueblo Grande Museum and finds out how a local
construction company works with small businesses and their community
outreach efforts.
September 2008
- Councilman Michael Johnson discusses the city's current budget situation
with Phoenix City Manager Frank Fairbanks. He also speaks with representatives
from AIDS Walk 2008 about the upcoming AIDS Walk in Phoenix. To close
the show, Timothy Gammage will discuss the annual Black Firefighter
Golf Tournament sponsored by the J.W. Robinson Society.
June 2008
- Councilman Michael Johnson discusses the massive earthquake
that hit Phoenix’s Sister City of Chengdu, China and the community’s
efforts to help our sister city. He also will feature the Youth Ambassador
Exchange Program and meet former youth ambassadors of Chengdu. To
close the show, he highlights a new library coming to his district.
