The Water Distribution Division is comprised of Administration and Field Operations with over 187 employees. The division is responsible for 6,847 miles of water distribution main, over 55,000 fire hydrants, 160,000 valves and 450,000 service line connections within a 540 square mile service area. Utility Technician positions in this division perform semiskilled work in the operation and maintenance of the city's water distribution system ranging in size from 2-inch to 16-inch pipe, fire hydrants, and valves. Maintains, monitors, installs, and/or repairs the city's water infrastructure utilizing manual operations such as hand tools, power tools, machine equipment and work aides.

As a Wastewater Treatment Utility Mechanic - SCBA with the City of Phoenix Water Services Department, you will perform skilled tasks in the repair and maintenance of pumps and mechanical equipment at a water or wastewater treatment plant, pumping station, deep well site, lift station, or booster station. Work will require the operation of machinery, but emphasis is upon servicing, installing, repairing, and maintaining equipment.

Work is performed under the general supervision of an O&M Supervisor, and the general direction of a Senior Utility Operator, Maintenance Planner Scheduler, or an Industrial Maintenance Mechanic, who reviews work while in progress and upon completion. Work assignments are varied, and employees must be knowledgeable in general mechanical maintenance/repair and hydraulic principles.

The Water Systems Operator performs daily monitoring and control of staffed and non-staffed water works facilities through the operation of a central computerized system, Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA). The O&M Supervisor is expected to monitor the technical performance of facilities in their assigned areas and make any necessary adjustments to ensure that all requirements of state and federal regulatory agencies are met. The O&M Supervisor may also serve as Incident Commander or Emergency Responder in the event of chemical emergencies.

This position will be located at the Cave Creek Water Reclamation Plant.

The Water Services Department is seeking a Lead User Technology Specialist for the Process Control Division.  The Process Control Division provides support for the Water Services Department's industrial control systems. The systems are located at 5 water treatment, 2 wastewater, 1 reclamation, and over 300 remote sites.

The main responsibilities of this position are:

  • Overseeing the design, installation, asset management, and support of the infrastructure server domain through servers, SAN servers, desktop workstations, laptops, fiber optics, and media converters.
  • Providing high level support in a LAN, and WAN environment supporting operating systems, application packages, database management systems, utilities, and related software.
  • Supporting the Process Control domain through Active Directory, Group Policies, Domain DNS, system security patching, and implementing backup/recovery strategies.
  • Providing project leadership while working closely with consultants and vendors to coordinate and manage the infrastructure domain.

This work requires strong communication skills, an in-depth knowledge of the process control environment across all platforms, the ability to design, develop, test, and implement presented and approved solutions, a robust technical aptitude, and exceptional 24/7 customer support skills with the ability to present technical information in a business format.
