The Housing Department provides and promotes diversified living environments and services for low-income families, seniors and people with disabilities by operating and leasing assisted and affordable housing. The City's housing stock includes five complexes containing more than 1,700 apartments for low-income individuals and families, and six complexes with 636 units for seniors and individuals with disabilities. The City also provides assistance to more than 12,765 residents who rent apartments and houses from private landlords under the Section 8 Housing Assistance Program. In addition, the City rents single-family homes to families working toward home ownership, and works with non-profit agencies to increase the supply of affordable housing opportunities for low and moderate income residents of Phoenix.
