Good government is not just the responsibility of elected officials and city employees; residents also play an important role. Through its boards and commissions, the city offers numerous opportunities for residents to get involved. Board and Commission members provide input to the Mayor, City Council, City Manager and city departments on a variety of issues affecting the city.
Hundreds of volunteers serve on our boards and commissions, many of which make direct recommendations to the City Council or to a City Department. Members examine a variety of issues from library resources to airport expansion, building safety to environmental quality, and development planning to neighborhood zoning regulations, among many other subjects.
As a board, commission, or committee member, you are an important part of the city process. The city appreciates your devotion, energy, time and expertise spent in making Phoenix a better place for everyone.
This section describes in more detail the various boards and the application process. Please note that some boards require residency within the city of Phoenix.
