What is the Earned Income Tax Credit Campaign?
Since 2003, the City of Phoenix Human Services Department has endorsed a citywide community Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) Campaign. Throughout the course of the campaign, more than 42,000 low- and moderate- income families have received more than $53 million in federal funds at Free Tax Preparation Sites across Phoenix. The savings generated through this initiative has helped Phoenix families keep over an estimated $11 million in transaction costs in their pockets!
How do I get my taxes done for FREE?
Don’t spend any of your refund paying or tax preparation; get your taxes prepared for FREE at a VITA site. The VITA Program services low-to- moderate income taxpayer payers, the elderly and those with disabilities, who made under $51,567 in 2013. Tax preparation is on a first-come, first served basis at most sites. It is very important to bring all necessary documentation to ensure a timely filing.
What is EITC and VITA?
The EITC Initiative is an entirely volunteer-driven project who are trained and certified through the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). Every year millions of dollars in tax refunds go unclaimed because people are unaware of the various credits available to them such as the EITC, a refundable federal income tax credit for low-income working individuals and families. Find out if you qualify for EITC! The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program or VITA is designed to change this by providing the maximum benefits available to the tax payer and giving them guidance to lessen their financial burden.
