Burton Barr Central Library hosts a workshop for people interested in starting their own business 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. the first Saturday of each month at 1221 N. Central Ave.
Provided by SCORE with funding from APS, the recurring workshop covers myths about starting and running a small business, common mistakes that small businesses make, the importance of a business plan, critical success factors and adequate capital, researching a business idea, knowing the competitors, investors and funding, and finding a competitive advantage. Presenters also discuss nonprofits, home-based and online businesses.
Workshops are presented by Bill Robinson, Roger Robinson, PhD and Dave Miller. Bill Robinson has consulted with Fortune 500 corporations and small companies for 35 years. Roger Robinson has degrees from Harvard, Wayne State, Michigan State and Walden Universities, and has successfully run a multi-unit entertainment enterprise in Michigan. Miller is a senior executive with 40 years experience, specializing in using strategic planning to effect change.
