City Launches New Search Tool for Campaign Finance Documents

Feb. 6, 2013

City Hall Obelisk with StarburstTransparency and efficiency are top priorities for Mayor Greg Stanton, and now a new campaign finance filing system creates easy access to what’s happening at City Hall.

The new electronic system will make campaign finance documents available immediately upon filing, and the public will be able to search the content in the reports.

“Transparency is a priority for me, and we’re going to continue working to make sure city government is easily accessible to residents in every way we can,” Stanton said.

Political committees and independent expenditure organizations are required to file registration documents and periodic reports of contribution and expenditure activity. Previously, the documents were filed on paper and scanned to the Internet, with a delay and limited search capabilities.

Expanded search tools at phoenix.gov allow anyone to search a candidate’s name, find out about committees and get more details about campaign transactions as soon as the reports are filed.

Stanton, the City Council, City Manager David Cavazos, the City Clerk and Information Technology Services departments collaborated to develop and implement the system to improve transparency and efficiency.

To easily search the records, go to phoenix.gov/cityclerk, then click on “Campaign Finance” under “Services,” or click the direct link: phoenix.gov/cityclerk/services/campfin/efilehome.html.
