City Survey's "Phoenix Good Place to Live" Response Highest in Survey History

City Hall for news releases 212 x 300In a survey released today by the City of Phoenix, more than nine out of 10 residents, or 93 percent, said Phoenix is a good place to live, the highest rating level in the history of the survey.

"Phoenix is not only a good place to live, it's the best place to live," said Mayor Greg Stanton.  "The survey is great news, but our work is not done. We must continue to make a stronger city and a better future for our residents."

Since 1985, the city has hired a private research company to conduct a city survey every two years.  This year, satisfaction rates for top city services were analyzed, comparing survey results from 2002 to 2012.  Satisfaction rates increased over the last 10 years for 20 out of 26 services studied including:

  • Police Protection
  • Enforcing Traffic Laws
  • Emergency Medical Services
  • Garbage/Recycling
  • Property Maintenance Standards
  • Fire Protection
  • Countering Gang Activities
  • Parks/Recreation Programs
  • Preserving Neighborhoods
  • Elderly Services
  • Uncontained Trash
  • Preserving Mountains/Deserts
  • City Bus Service
  • Operating Wastewater Plants
  • Safe Drinking Water
  • Controlling Cut-through Traffic
  • Crime Prevention Efforts
  • Providing Youth Programs
  • Preventing Illegal Dumping
  • Poor/Homeless Services

Overall satisfaction with providing city services also increased from 83 percent in 2010 to 87 percent in 2012.

"Phoenix has the greatest employees in the world, and these survey results confirm that," said City Manager David Cavazos.  "Because of our employees' hard work providing residents outstanding services every day of the week, we are able to achieve great success."

Other areas studied included rating city services on a scale of one to 10. The highest ranking services were emergency medical service (8.6); fire protection (8.6); garbage/recycling collection (8.2); and maintaining traffic signals (8.1).  After providing feedback about city services, residents were asked what areas could be improved.  Their top priorities are attracting new employers; job training/placement; poor/homeless services.
