Phoenix Vice-Mayor Bill Gates, the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety and the Phoenix Fire Department are hosting a free child car seat safety event from 7 to 10 a.m. on Saturday, June 15, at the Marketplace at Central, Ross Dress For Less parking lot, 217 E. Dunlap Ave.
Certified Car Seat Technicians will properly install car seats and perform car seat checks. During previous car seat inspections, the Phoenix Fire Department found that four out of every five child car safety seats were installed incorrectly and one-third of children were found to be riding in the wrong restraints for their age and size.
Many children are injured or killed each year because they ride unrestrained or improperly restrained in a vehicle. More than 58% of these tragedies could be prevented with the use of approved and correctly installed child safety seats.
